After a return to indie form with Prince Avalanche in 2013, director David Gordon Green is going a little bit darker with his latest film, Joe. And this time it's Nicolas Cage in the lead as an ex-convict just trying to put his past behind him. Seeing an opportunity for redemption, he begins watching out for a 15 year old boy named Gary (Tye Sheridan) as he tries to support his family. The Playlist says, "While the film flirts with a number of genres genres—melodrama, comedy, coming-of-age—it ultimately lands closest to being Green’s first western by the time it reaches its conclusion." Sounds like a must-see to me, especially with Cage in the lead of a decent project. Now we have the first international trailer for the film. Watch it below!

Here's the first international trailer for David Gordon Green's Joe (found via The Playlist):

In the dirty unruly world of small-town Texas, ex-convict Joe Ransom (Nicolas Cage) has tried to put his dark past behind him and to live a simple life. He works for a lumber company by day, drinks by night. But when 15-year-old Gary (Tye Sheridan) – a kid trying to support his family – comes to town, desperate for work, Joe has found a way to atone for his sins and finally be someone’s hero. As Joe tries to protect Gary, the pair will take the twisting road to redemption in the hope for a better life. Joe is directed by David Gordon Green and written by Gary Hawkins, based on Larry Brown's book of the same name. The film premiered at the Venice & Toronto Film Festivals. Lionsgate will be releasing Joe in theaters on April 11th.
