Following yesterday's reveal of the nominations for the Producers Guild Awards for the films released in 2013, we now have the Writers Guild Awards chiming in with their nominations for feature films. Last year's winners were Argo (which went on to win Best Picture), Zero Dark Thirty (which should have won Best Picture) and Searching for Sugar Man. Feature films eligible for a Writers Guild Award were exhibited theatrically for at least one week in LA during 2013 and were written under the WGA’s Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA) or under a bona fide collective bargaining agreement of the Writers Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of Great Britain, Irish Playwrights & Screenwriters Guild, or the New Zealand Writers Guild. Documentaries eligible for a Writers Guild Award featured an onscreen writing credit and were exhibited theatrically in LA or New York for one week during 2013. Theatrical screenplays/documentaries produced under the jurisdiction of the WGA or an affiliate Guild must have been submitted for WGA awards consideration. See all the WGA nominees here.

Lone Survivor is a surprising entry in the race, and it just might mean some Oscar love is in store for the film. However, this just doesn't seem to be the year for Joel & Ethan Coen. After failing to land a PGA nomination for Inside Llewyn Davis, the brothers have now failed to get a WGA nomination as well. It's a tough year after all, and it's hard to argue with these nominations. Though we're not the biggest fans of American Hustle, since there seems to be a lot of improvisation and choppiness in what we see on the big screen. We'll find out the winners on February 1st, so come back and see who won! Any thoughts?
