"Yo Sparkles!" Welcome to 2014! Sony is kicking off the New Year with a bang by being the first with a new promo. Spider-Man was part of the Times Square New Years Eve countdown ceremony in New York City (here's a teaser) and as part of the event they released a brand new "exclusive" teaser for Marc Webb's +The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The footage, now online in high def below, shows the villain Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, attacking Times Square and of course some shots of Spidey swinging in to save the day. There's a quick glimpse of the Rhino-bot snapping shut, but it's mostly this attack scene and that's about it. Oh and Stan Lee. This isn't the kind of all-out promo I was expecting, but if you want new footage have at it.

Here's the New Years promo for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, introduced by Stan Lee:

The "ElectroArrives.com" viral site now points to EnemiesUnite.com showing yet another countdown.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb and written by Jeff Pinker, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

"We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."

Sony will release Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters next summer on May 2nd. Watch the trailers.
