Fan Story: What "Spider-Man" (Peter Parker) Means To Me!

First, a little bit about myself: My name is Parthiv Patel, I’m 22 years old, I live in Surat,India.

My first REAL introduction to Spider-Man was in 2002, when the Raimi-Maguire movie came out. I was 11 years old. I knew of Spidey before that, but wasn’t really a FAN. I was more into Superman at the time. Ever since I saw the first movie, I was blown away by Peter Parker’s story. I loved the movie so much, that when I saw some of Tobey’s other movies after, I just patiently waited for him to become Spider-Man in those movies too. I did not understand the concept of “Actors” back then. But the things I loved the MOST were the costume and the score. That suit was gorgeous and the music was phenomenal. I left the theater humming Spidey’s theme.

Right after seeing the first movie, I begged my parents to sign me up for an art class, which I attended for three years. I wanted to learn to draw like Peter Parker. (Remember the part where he’s coming up with the costume designs?)

I grew up with Spider-Man, and he’s been my mentor for the last twelve years. I’ve never really been a huge fan of any other superhero. I mean, yeah, there’s Iron Man, Batman, Captain America, Thor, and so on, but I was never REALLY into any of them. I saw Spidey as something different, someone to relate to. I know some people look at Spider-Man movies, comics, and cartoons and think they’re just for Lids, but they’re obviously wrong. They don’t know what they’re missing. These stories have shaped who I am, and I honestly don’t know who I would be today without Spidey. The old web-head has taught me the meaning of responsibility, as well as many other things. He’s the greatest teacher I have ever had, thanks to Stan (The Man) Lee!

Some words of wisdom:

"With great power, comes great responsibility. Remember that, Pete, remember that."- Ben Parker (Spider-Man, 2002)

"Sometimes, to do what’s right, we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most."- Aunt May (Spider-Man 2, 2004)

"We all have secrets: the ones we keep... and the ones that are kept from us."- Peter Parker (The Amazing Spider-Man, 2012)

"I was wrong about you, Peter. This city needs you."- George Stacy (The Amazing Spider-Man, 2012)

"You're Spider-Man, and I love that. But I love Peter Parker more."- Gwen Stacy (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 2014)

"Everyone has a part of themselves they hide, even from the people they love most. And you dont have forever, none of us ever do."- Aunt May (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 2014)
