"The forest belongs to the darkness." Well, we're not sure if audiences will flock to see Epic or not. While Blue Sky Animation's adaptation of William Joyce's children's book The Leaf Men has plenty of adventure, the scale of the action doesn't seem to fare well with the humor. There are flares of Shrek combining with Fern Gully and Avatar, but something doesn't feel quite right. The animation looks positively stunning, but the contemporary feel of some of the characters' dialogue doesn't mesh with the visual aesthetic. It feels like there's two different films at work here, but maybe it's just how the trailer is put together. Watch it below!
Here's the new trailer for Chris Wedge's Epic, directly from 20th Century Fox:
A teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil rages on. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world -- and ours.
Epic is based on The Leaf Men by William Joyce (the same author behind the books that inspired Rise of the Guardians) being directed by Chris Wedge (who previously directed the first Ice Age and Robots for Blue Sky, and also voices the prehistoric squirrel Scrat). The voice cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Nod, Amanda Seyfried as Mary Katherine, Beyoncé Knowles, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Christoph Waltz and Judah Friedlander. 20th Century Fox will be bringing Blue Sky Animation's Epic to theaters everywhere in 3D starting early this summer on May 24th, 2013. Anyone interested?

The poor choice of voice actors kind of ruins it for me. Visually it seems pretty ok though, but I can't help but get "Honey, I shrinked the kids" flashbacks in my head...
