Look Out: New Amazing 'Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' Trailer + Poster

"Destroy the dragon. Take back your homeland." The past 24 hours have been chock full of goodness for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with seven new character posters, and The Hobbit fan event taking place earlier today (we'll post that video below whenever it's available online). Now one of the treats unveiled at the event is online in the form of a three-minute, extended first look trailer for the fantasy epic sequel from director Peter Jackson. There's tons of stunning new footage here, including more details on just what Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) has to endure this time, not to mention the clash between dwarves and elves, and a great new line from Smaug himself. And here's all the footage from The Hobbit fan event hosted by Anderson Cooper and featuring Richard Armitage, the film's Thorin Oakenshield; Orlando Bloom, who returns to the role of Legolas from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy; Evangeline Lilly, who joins the cast as a new Elf warrior, Tauriel; Lee Pace, the film's Elf King Thranduil; Luke Evans, who joins the cast as Bard the Bowman; and Andy Serkis, a member of Jackson's filmmaking team and the first film's Gollum. The bumper plays for along time in the beginning with a scrolling Twitter bar, but the actual video stars at 10:02, so enjoy, you crazy Hobbit fans:

The Hobbit follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug  lands in theaters in 3D & 48FPS on December 13th.
